Jewelry cleaning is basically divided into two parts, gemstones and metals. Both have their own preferences and the best way, depending on the specific situation.
First introduce the common cleaning tools. The selection method is attached at the end of the article.
1. Brush
It is very convenient to have brushes such as toothbrushes at hand. To clean jewelry, it is recommended to use dish soap. You can use fine-grained toothpaste to clean silver jewelry, which has a slight cleaning effect, but it will cause small scratches on the surface. Not recommended for use on coated jewelry. Delicate jewelry such as pearls should not touch a hard brush.
I generally use a soft brush, or a clarisonic face brush to clean my jewelry. This ultra-fine hair cleansing brush on Taobao has delicate, soft and very fine hair, which is very suitable for cleaning delicate things. I usually use it to clean antique jewelry with pearls in many details.
Toothbrush
In fact, toothbrush and toothpaste are also very useful. It is understandable to make an enhanced version of the soft brush. The different types of toothpaste will affect the effect. The toothpaste without particles / transparent one can be used to clean most jewelry. Those containing particles will leave some traces similar to crabapple powder on the metal, which will damage the surface of some low-hardness gemstones and organic gemstones, but it is also good for old silver jewelry or antiques. There is a particularly coarse-grained toothpaste that must be used with care. It is very effective in cleaning, but it may brush the metal out of the matte surface.
Electric toothbrushes and face wash brushes are two relatively stable options for cleaning jewelry.
2. Silver wiping cloth
The silver wiping cloth itself contains fine abrasives, which are equivalent to re-polishing. It is more convenient, it can only clean large areas, light oxidation, and the effect on oxidation accumulated over the years is very weak.
3. Begonia powder
In fact, it is fine calcium carbonate powder. Oxidation is removed by fine polishing the surface.
4. Silver paste
Silver rubbing paste is difficult to clean the details because of the paste. However, it is used to wipe antique utensils, etc., and it can retain the old feeling in a moderate way. Not valid on non-silver items.
5. Silver washing water
Through a chemical reaction, silver oxidation is reduced. I usually use Connoisseurs. The silver washing water cleans the details very well, and the chain can also be washed very clean, basically without dead ends. There is no damage to the coating and the cleaning effect is very good. Some gold-plated silver ornaments will have brown-blue markings for a long time, and silver washing water has the best effect. However, the reaction of silver washing water with the sulfur used for making old will turn the whole old part yellow, and it is difficult to wash off, so old silver jewelry must not be touched. Silver washing water will also damage the surface of pearls, etc. Organic gemstones should not be touched. If you have to use it, you can use a thin pen to dip it in a small area without touching the pearls, and then rinse it off immediately.
Silver washing water reacts differently to different proportions of silver. Some silver jewelry will turn yellow slightly after being washed for a while. Just wipe it with a silver cloth or crabapple powder.
6. Polishing strip
In fact, it is a polishing strip for manicure. It cannot handle the details, but it is also effective for fine scratches on the surface. The long-term oxidation effect is also good, and it can be used with an ultrasonic cleaner.
7. Home Ultrasound
The ultrasonic wave used for jewelry cleaning is the kind used to wash glasses, which is very convenient. The effect of ultrasound is very good. It can be used with dish soap. For jewelry with good stability, it can be used with glass water. For fashion jewelry, many imitation pearls are used, and there are many metal coatings. It is not recommended to use ultrasonic waves, which may cause destructive consequences. The surface nacre of the imitation pearl peels off in its entirety. For gemstones, ultrasonic waves may cause fragmentation for varieties with more fissures. Coral should not be used. Do not shake the old silver jewelry with the new silver jewelry, it will get dirty.
The maintenance method should take into account both gemstones and metals.
